Education

Advocacy, Inc. believes that students with disabilities learn best when receiving the special education services and supports they need in settings with their same age peers. For this to be a reality for the 500,000 students in Texas eligible for special education services: school districts must fully implement both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the Texas Education Agency must identify and correct noncompliance, parents must know and exercise their rights, and the state must adequately fund special education. Many of our requests for services are from parents of students with disabilities.

Advocacy, Inc. does extensive work in the area of Education. Activities include: individual casework (including litigation) within Board-adopted priorities, class action litigation, technical assistance to private attorneys representing students with disabilities, development and dissemination of written materials for parents on a variety of education issues, parent training, and advocacy for public policies that support quality education for students with disabilities.

Our current year priorities for casework in Education can be found on the Priorities page. Our written materials, including our parent manual, can be found on the Handouts page and links to other websites with information about education of students with disabilities are on the Links page.
